DCS World ✈️

Next to real-world flight training, I spend a lot of time in Digital Combat Simulator (DCS World).
It allows me to practice procedures, train navigation, and enjoy the challenge of military aviation.

My Aircraft

  • F-16C Block 50 – my main module
  • Map focus: Caucasus (with plans to expand later)

Training Focus

  • ILS Landings → creating custom .miz training missions with:
    • Radio beacons and ILS frequencies
    • Step-by-step text instructions (with space-to-continue triggers)
    • Audio cues and visual markers
  • TACAN & Navigation → practicing proper flows (course setting + TACAN)
  • Autopilot → understanding engage/disengage, altitude hold, and navigation modes

Tools I Use

  • Custom kneeboards with checklists, radar modes, and weapon abbreviations
  • Printable PDFs / Excel tables for quick reference during missions
  • Mission editor to design training scenarios that replicate real procedures

Hardware Setup

  • VR headset for full immersion
  • Experimenting with DIY cockpit elements (aluminum profiles, chair design, potential motion rig)

Why DCS?

  • Helps me transfer discipline and procedure use to real flight training
  • Gives a safe sandbox to practice instrument approaches and emergency scenarios
  • Connects my love for aviation, technology, and simulation into one hobby

DCS World is more than just a game for me — it’s an extension of my journey as a (student) pilot.
