DCS World ✈️
Next to real-world flight training, I spend a lot of time in Digital Combat Simulator (DCS World).
It allows me to practice procedures, train navigation, and enjoy the challenge of military aviation.
My Aircraft
- F-16C Block 50 – my main module
- Map focus: Caucasus (with plans to expand later)
Training Focus
- ILS Landings → creating custom .miz training missions with:
- Radio beacons and ILS frequencies
- Step-by-step text instructions (with space-to-continue triggers)
- Audio cues and visual markers
- TACAN & Navigation → practicing proper flows (course setting + TACAN)
- Autopilot → understanding engage/disengage, altitude hold, and navigation modes
Tools I Use
- Custom kneeboards with checklists, radar modes, and weapon abbreviations
- Printable PDFs / Excel tables for quick reference during missions
- Mission editor to design training scenarios that replicate real procedures
Hardware Setup
- VR headset for full immersion
- Experimenting with DIY cockpit elements (aluminum profiles, chair design, potential motion rig)
Why DCS?
- Helps me transfer discipline and procedure use to real flight training
- Gives a safe sandbox to practice instrument approaches and emergency scenarios
- Connects my love for aviation, technology, and simulation into one hobby
DCS World is more than just a game for me — it’s an extension of my journey as a (student) pilot.
